What is the easiest way for me to identify stamps in someone’s Stamp collection?

Someone asked me to identify some stamps they’ve been given because I have a reputation as a good researcher, but I can’t find a comprehensive catalog or wiki that offers pictures of stamps and then descriptive text about the history and context of the stamp. Is there such a site out there? How would my friend go about getting his stamps identified?

The easiest way is to take them to a professional stamp appraiser. You have already found out why they get paid for the work they do. Their extensive knowledge has been acquired by a lot of study and research, and is a valuable resource.

Be prepared to pay a fee for this easy access. If you don’t want to pay the fee, then be prepared to spend hours upon hours hunting down each stamp.
