Stamps Collector

When is the correct time to sell coins and Stamps Collection   by Robert Pepoa

When is the absolute point in time to sell coins or stamps collections? This may possibly be a dumb question if asked to collector however timing really does make a big difference. There are times when a collector wakes up in the morning and suddenly makes a decision to sell his precious collections collected over the years. There are also times that a collector needs to yield up his collections due to private reasons and the concept of selling his precious collection may be the most arduous part. No matter what the reasons are, it is a fact that this does occur in the life of every collector.

A number of collectors often search for the coins and stamps they want and for the period of that searching journey, they may stumble upon items that may not be qualified for their own collection but they may buy them anyway perhaps because at that time it’s sold cheaper than usual. Upon returning back, they trade the coins they have bought and make service of the money to obtain new items that they really are looking for.

There are also coin and Stamps Collectors who collect items not just for a hobby; these collectors use these items primarily as their source of income. They make a living from selling the coins and stamps that they collect. Sometimes they sell them to other collectors and set a price much higher than the usual cost of the items and this is appropriate if that particular collector really needs it to complete his collection.

Once a collector has decided to sell his coins and stamps he must consider if it is really the right time to sell. Is the collector ready to give away his coins and stamps? Is the item at higher price now? Will it do well and will he benefit from selling it? These factors should always be considered.
There are other options available to determine where a collector could sell his coins. He may want to sell the items at auctions. Many people now opt of putting their belongings up for auction and this is not restricted to arts and collectibles as before.

There is furthermore a higher probability of having the items sold at a higher price since auctions include bidding processes. Buyers may bid for a higher price especially if the coin or Stamp being sold is of rare quality and has a higher value.

A collector may also want to put up a website to advertise it there. The Internet is the easiest way for collectors to search for these items. In addition, advertising on the Internet will make the selling an easier task. He should also note how much he is willing sell them for. Just note that this way of selling can take longer depends on demand.
There are other options as well if the sellers want his collections to be paid outright; He can seek a dealer that may want to buy the collection for fair price.

It is of course advisable to compare prices between one dealer and another as there is always a chance that one dealer may buy the coins and stamps at a higher price than other dealer. It is intelligent to shop for dealers and then decide which one you want to deal with.
It is also recommended that collectors who decide to sell their items may as well use a catalog or grading service from reputable companies depending if the items are rare. By using a catalog or grading service, the seller will be able to set a price that is based on the assessment recorded in the catalog or made by the assessors.

“As both a dealer and collector, I must say that Collectible Investing for the High Net Worth Investor is one of the most exciting works I have encountered. The editors’ great contribution is to have assembled an impressive panel of experts with one foot each in the parallel worlds of finance and collecting. As a result, this volume is the first I have encountered that offers analytic rigor while remaining grounded in the realities of the market for collectibles, whether they be art, maps, stamps, wine or other valuables.” —Michael Buehler, President, Boston Rare Maps Incorporated”This is an extraordinary book. It brings together a dozen of the most analytically sophisticated minds in investment finance, and turns their considerable expertise to bringing great clarity to the intrinsically qualitative world of collectibles as investments. We are indeed fortunate to have a wealth of rigorous analytical thinking brought to bear on what financial professionals often dismiss as mere hobbies.”—Dan diBartolomeo, President, Northfield Information, a market leader in providing investment professionals with analytical and operating efficiency tools to enhance individual portfolio and firm-wide performance“Almost every collector thinks, at least occasionally, about the investment aspect of their collection. The contributors to this book really open the reader’s eyes to the breadth of issues — from the psychological to the financial — involved in collectibles as investments. Despite the wide variety of collectibles — from wine to fine art to antiquarian maps — common themes come out strongly from the writers who explore the investment aspects of each collection type.”—Jeremy Pool, Publisher, Antique Map Price Record”At last a scholarly book that accompanies the thriving market for collectibles. Collecting

Collecting

$38.99

The hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining whatever items are of interest to the individual collector. Some collectors are generalists, accumulating merchandise, or stamps from all countries of the world. Others focus on a subtopic within their area of interest, perhaps 19th century postage stamps, milk bottle labels from Sussex, or Mongolian harnesses and tack. The items collectors collect may be antique, or simply collectible. Antiques are collectible items at least 100 years old; collectibles are less than antique, and may even be new. Collectors and dealers may use the word vintage to describe older collectibles. Most collectibles are man-made commercial items, but some private collectors collect natural objects such as birds’ eggs, butterflies, rocks, and seashells. Collecting is a practice with a very old cultural history. The Egyptian Ptolemaic dynasty collected books from all over the known world at the Library of Alexandria.

 Collecting Lincoln

Collecting Lincoln

$69.95

Look at Abraham Lincoln through others’ eyes, seeing history in an entirely different light. While historical text details what Lincoln thought or did and how he planned his actions, the collector of Lincoln holds tangible items, revealing how society saw or portrayed the president. Through collectibles, Lincoln is revealed not only as politician, but also as the subject of painters and sculptors. His influence on society and politics is brought to life in a way which can’t be produced in a purely historical or biographical text. The first president to be photographed and have his photographs distributed to hundreds of thousands of citizens, Lincoln’s image appears on medals, coins, stamps, and currency, and his story is told in books and pamphlets. Lincoln relics elevate him to an almost saint-like figure in society, and his assassination brought the nation to its knees in mourning. Over 950 photographs illustrate this multi-faceted look at Lincoln and how society still reveres him more than one hundred years after his death.

Chapters: Telecommunications in Iceland, Postage Stamps and Postal History of Iceland, .Is, Íslandspóstur, List of Fish on Stamps of Iceland, Farice-1, Telephone Numbers in Iceland, Reykjavik Internet Exchange. Excerpt: This is a survey of the postage stamps and postal history of Iceland. Regular mail service in Iceland was first established by a charter of 13 May 1776, and on 1 January 1873, Iceland issued its first postage stamps. The design was the same as for the Danish numeral issue of the time (numeral of value surmounted by a crown all inside an oval), denominated with values ranging from 2 to 16 skilling, and inscribed ÍSLAND. All are scarce or rare, and used copies are especially hard to find. 20 aurar, 1882 (used at Vopnafjörður?)In 1876 the currency changed to eyrir (pl. aurar) and króna. This meant new stamps, which were issued beginning in August. The same basic design, with some changes of color and perforation, continued in use through 1901. In 1897 a shortage of 3-aurar stamps led to the overprinting of 5-aurur stamps with þrir or þrir / 3; these are rare, and unfortunately excellent counterfeits have been produced. 25 aurar “Í Gildi”, 1902In 1902 the numeral stamps were officially withdrawn and declared invalid for postage, since a new set depicting King Christian IX was to be issued. But then the Minister of Iceland changed his mind for reasons which are still unclear and had the numerals reissued, overprinted Í GILDI / ’02–’03 in red or black, the overprint indicating that they were still valid. While some of the overprints are common, costing the collector less than a US$ or euro, others are among the great rarities of Icelandic philately. There are also many inverts and typographical errors to be

Dinosaurs And Other Prehistoric Animals On Stamps – A Worldwide Catalogue

$16.1

There has never been a more popular time for dinosaurs and all things dinosaurian. From blockbuster films packed with breathtaking CGI effects, children’s television and video cartoons, computer games, CD-ROMs, animatronic museum exhibitions, and theme parks, to countless books, magazines, toys large and small, ornaments, collectabilia, and even fun lines in confectionery and other edibles, prehistoric paraphernalia continues to scale new heights of desirability worldwide. But nowhere is this more apparent than within the philatelic world – where the issuing in recent years by an ever-increasing number of countries around the globe of handsome, highly-prized stamp sets depicting a spectacular array of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals is matched only by the corresponding increase of thematic collectors eager to amass an eyecatching, comprehensive menagerie of palaeontological monsters that the custodians of Jurassic Park could only dream about!Today, well over 500 sets of stamps portraying all manner of dinosaurs and also a multifarious assemblage of other prehistoric animals have been issued, with a substantial proportion of these having appeared within the last decade alone – confirming the escalating interest among collectors in this exciting thematic subject. And who can blame them? After all, where else but in the pages of a stamp album could stegosaurs and plesiosaurs, tyrannosaurs and sabre-tooth tigers, brachiosaurs, mammoths, belemnites, ground sloths, giant birds, and ichthyosaurs jostle for attention with velociraptors and trilobites, dimetrodonts and diplodocuses, mosasaurs, woolly rhinoceroses, Archaeopteryx, titanosaurs, iguanodontids, ammonites, giant sea scorpions, and innumerable other spectacular denizens of our planet’s distant past? Now, for the very first time, here is a philatelic catalogue devoted exclusively to these incredible animals. Firesticks: A Collection of Stories

$19.95

Incorporating elements of fiction, nonfiction, drama, and poetry, Diane Glancy”s stories are lyrical yet down to earth, often tough and gritty. Experimental, sometimes surreal in form, they nevertheless concern people who are very real-a color-blind young boy who watches planes in flight and imagines color; a shy stamp collector who speculates that he and his friend, like the stamps, could go anywhere via the U.S. Post Office; an old woman who dies in the cold landscape of her inner life but retains her vision; a cynical woman reluctant to take risks with yet another traveling man.In spite of life”s hard realities, Firesticks is filled with humor and hope and a stitching together of cultures, as the crossblood characters search for their identities.

I Served the King of England

I Served the King of England

$19.99

Despite the 1997 death of longtime friend and Closely Watched Trains collaborator Bohumil Hrabal, 1960s-era Czech New Wave filmmaker Jir? Menzel enters into a postmortem collaboration with the famed author in this pitch-black comedy detailing the shrewd rise of an ambitious waiter. All diminutive manservant Jan Dite (Ivan Barnev) ever wanted was to be filthy rich and to preside over his very own hotel. As a young man coming of age in the 1930s, Jan was preoccupied by beautiful women and awestricken by the fact that anyone, be they rich or poor, would bend to their knees to pick up a coin. With World War II fast approaching and the Germans steadily taking occupation of Czech territory, the opportunistic servant begins his rapid ascent up the hospitality ladder by working for a number of high-profile figures. Though Jan was never a man to settle down with just one woman, his growing attraction to Aryan beauty Liza (Julia Jentsch) soon finds the aspiring hotelier proposing marriage. Of course, a blueblood Teuton like Liza could never wed a man unable to provide proof of his German heritage, but that doesn’t stop Jan from doing his best to please her in the bedroom. Later, when Liza is killed retrieving a box of valuable stamps acquired during her stint at the Russian front, Jan uses the valuable collector’s items to purchase the very hotel in which he used to work. Unfortunately for Jan, good luck is always followed by bad news, and it’s not long before his life’s ambition comes crumbling down all around him. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

 Love of Money

Love of Money

$40.75

Here’s a useful and entertaining study of something we all need to have and hate to need – money. The author casts a collector’s eye on coins and banknotes as a hobby, touching on stamps and postal marks, and puts our love affair with lucre into an historical perspective.Currencies and nationhood being inevitably intertwined, European politics and the perils of the euro – now limping and threatening to topple us too – are critically addressed. The author uses anecdotes and poetry to plead for peaceful solutions, for caution rather than greed, and careful giving rather than squandered overseas aid. This instructive and uplifting work deserves the attention of anyone who ‘heapeth up riches, and cannot tell who shall gather them’ – in other words, you and me.
