The time has never been so right to turn your old or broken gold jewelry into money. And guess what? It is not only jewelry that is accepted. When we hear jewelry all too often we immediately think rings, necklaces and similar items for adornment. But, the great news is that, all kind of items are accepted for resale.

All items offered for sale have to be real gold, silver or platinum and this can be determined by the hall mark or karat Stamp imprinted on the back of the items. Even silver dishes and serving trays will have this stamp on the underside of them. In a few cases, usually with older items, this stamp has worn off during polishing or from extensive use. However, this is no difficulty as most companies have an in-house appraiser that is specially trained to identify legitimate products.

There are some products that do not have these stamps. For gold items, the stamp usually states the karat level, such as 10K, 14K, etc, while silver is usually SS (denoting sterling silver) or a number such as 925.

Some gold products originating from most African countries or China, where it is a common practice for a customer to order a specialized piece and provide the gold or to bring a piece for repair and provide the gold to effectuate the repair, these pieces are not stamped. The amazing news is that these pieces are often coveted as they are mostly made of 24 karat gold. These are some of the items that you can count on being bought from you.

Old dental gold, scrap gold, gold dust, broken jewelry, even everyday items like gold pens and old gold medals are saleable. But, be careful! Some items may appear to be gold but are only gold plated, which has no re-sale value.

The best method to get your money’s worth is to surf on-line for a reputable online gold trading company, list what you have for sale and await the estimate. This usually takes a minimum of 24 hours and can take up to one week. Then post the items to the company either by registered post or in one of the companies own special gold carrier packages, get the appraisal report, give your agreement of the price offered and await payment.

The good thing about using these special gold kits, as they are called, is that the company selected usually does not charge a postage fee. Another good thing is that, as these on-line companies are usually owned by a refinery or own their own refinery there are no refining charges or commissions that might be charged by other types of buyers, for instance, pawn shops.

On-line trading cuts out the middle man, thereby giving you up to 10% more for your gold. Payment can be immediate, if you choose the option of an e-check to your PayPal account or up to 5 days if you choose a company check in the mail. Although this may seem like an easy way to make some fast cash, it may be better to hold on to your gold for a few more months as investors are predicting a rise in gold prices.
